Caution: Do not pour boiling water directly into jars. When removing jars from hot water after sterilisation or processing, we recommend hand protection or the use Kilner jar tongs. Do not put very hot jars on cold, wet or metallic surfaces as this can cause jars to crack. If sterilising or processing jars in hot water, do not allow the jars to come into direct contact with the base of the pan. Do not immerse the jars directly into boiling water. Allow the water temperature to increase gradually.
There are many methods of preserving and canning. We suggest to achieve the best results you should always use a trusted recipe and follow the instructions exactly. We have listed a few basic rules to ensure successful preserving: Before use, ensure jar surfaces are free from chips, scratches or any remnants of food. If jars are found to have chips or scratches, discard and replace with new ones. Avoid the use of metallic or abrasive sponges and allow jars to dry naturally. 86 mm / 3-3/8 inch lids fit Kilner wide mouth jars with a 86 mm / 3-3/8 inch mouth. Always check screw bands for signs of deterioration before use. Before preserving, jars and lids must be sterilised. When filling a hot jar, be sure to leave appropriate headspace between the preserve and the top of the jar. We recommend approximately 1-2 cm / 1/2-3/4 inch. Remove air bubbles with a bubble remover spatula. Ensure the jar rim is perfectly clean and place the vacuum discs on the jar. Place the outer screw band on the lid and tighten. (Do not over tighten). Do not retighten as this may result in seal failure. Process the jars using your preferred method or following your recipe instructions. Sealed jars should be left for 24 hours to cool. Once a vacuum seal has successfully formed, jars should he stored in a cool dry place away from the light in an upright position. Care and Use: Always clean jars and lids before use. Wash thoroughly and rinse in clean, warm water. Jars are dishwasher safe. Screw bands can be washed in warm water. Vacuum discs can only be used once. Replacement bands and discs are available.
