The Haggen Tradition of Quality and Value
In 1933, Ben and Dorothy Haggen embarked on a journey. Their commitment was to change
the way food retailing was being done—to bring their guests quality products, at
a value, and whenever possible buying from local farmers and merchants.
Today, that tradition is carried on in our various corporate brand products. It
began with the Haggen label itself, which embodied the spirit of our company and
which is still today our mark of quality, value and an unconditional satisfaction
that every one of our products will exceed our guests’ expectations. As we expand
our brand offerings we always ensure that quality, not price, is the determining
factor in choosing the items that fill our stores’ shelves. This is our promise
to our guests and why our brands set themselves apart from other stores’ brands.
Our family of products help fill a variety of our guests’ needs, from helping them
prepare great meals (HAGGEN, FOOD CLUB) to helping them take care of their families
(TOPCARE) and pets (PAWS). Whether it’s making earth-friendly, natural and organic
choices (FULL CIRCLE) or exploring cuisines of far away places (WORLD CLASSICS),
our corporate brands carry on the heritage that Ben and Dorothy set in motion more
than seventy five years ago and ensure that our guests can save money without sacrificing
quality.

We carry over 750 Haggen Brand Products—hand selected to ensure that we meet or
exceed the national brand like-item for quality. Many of our Haggen products are
made locally, supporting our local farmers, growers, industries, and manufacturers.
In fact, over 58% of our sales come from products made right here in the Pacific
Northwest—something other brands simply cannot claim. And, we are able to bring
these products to our guests at significant savings.

We also partner with other retailers that we work with to develop products under
the Food Club brand. These items, like Haggen, provide the very best value to our
guest with products that meet or exceed the comparable national brand for taste,
quality, and appearance.

We recently introduced our World Classic Trading Company. These unique items bring
the flavors of the world to our guests’ table.
This is an exclusive brand for Haggen, featuring unique flavors and products as
well as superior taste. Products such as these are commonly not available at “mainstream”
grocery retailers, but are a perfect fit for who we are—making our guests’ lives
easier, more enjoyable and helping them prepare fabulous food to enjoy with families
and friends. We now carry over 100 World Classic items with flavors from more than
five continents.

TerraVida Coffee is also an exclusive brand at Haggen. Our buyers have hand selected
coffee grown in the best coffee regions of the world from Africa, South America,
Central America, and Asia. We buy only fair trade coffee, supporting the local coffee
growers and their communities by working with them one on one. We then take these
beans to our local roasting facility in Bellingham, Washington, where they are roasted
to perfection. We are the only local retailer to own our own coffee brand and manage
the bean selection, roasting process, and flavor profiles of our coffees. Our branding
for TerraVida, “The Crossroads of Earth and Life” captures the uniqueness and human
touch of this product.

A third exclusive Haggen brand is Full Circle. This line features 200 products (with
more coming soon) that are natural and organic. We take pride in ensuring that the
quality and value of organic and natural products is never compromised. Our guests
can be confident that they are receiving the very best nature has to offer.

Another way that we help our guests get more for less is with our TopCare brand
of health and beauty care products. This line features over 500 items, with “the
same relief for less”. Many times, the same manufacturer that is making the national
branded medication or beauty product is also making TopCare products for us. Because
of the way we buy and market these items, we are able to bring them to our guests
at significantly lower prices without sacrificing quality.

Rounding out items for around the house are our four exclusive brands that bring
national brand quality at very low prices to our guests. Domestix home products
such as gloves and sponges, Electrix lighting and batteries, Academix office and
school supplies, and EasyClix camera and film items make up these four value brands.

Our PAWS pet care items feature both dog and cat foods, as well as pet treats….and
soon pet toys and supplies. Our buying group has traveled across the country and
the world to find the highest quality pet products to ensure they meet our strict
quality standards that match up to some of the best selling pet foods available
today.

Valu Time provides economical, value choices for our guests. We carry over 150 of
the most commonly purchased categories throughout our grocery, dairy, and frozen
food departments. As the economy tightens and guests manage their food dollar, Valu
Time is becoming a more important part of our everyday brand solution.
